Emmitt Smith

Emmitt Smith’s glittering football career is characterized by a string of monumental achievements, including three Super Bowl wins, 18,355 rushing yards and 175 total touchdowns, along with one touchdown pass in 2004 – his last season in the NFL. He was the first player ever to win the NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP awards in the same season, when his 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns helped the Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII.

On August 7th, 2010, Emmitt was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, capping an astonishing football career with a fitting tribute to one of the greatest players that ever graced the gridiron.

Just one month earlier, on July 8th, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher made his mark on the poker world. Emmitt uttered the immortal words – “Shuffle up and deal” – as the honorary starter at the 2010 WSOP. The former Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals running back also participated in the tournament, having earlier won his way through a Full Tilt Poker-sponsored charity Celebrity Invitational, which he organized with his wife Patricia.

Battling through a celebrity field that included former Cowboys teammate Michael Irvin, former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis and Team Full Tilt’s Phil Ivey, Emmitt won his prize package to the WSOP. In the Main Event, his prowess on the field translated to the felt. Emmitt performed admirably before eventually busting out when his trip-tens ran into an opponent’s full house.

In 2005, after two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Emmitt announced his retirement from pro football, three days prior to Super Bowl XXXIX. He was traded to the Cowboys for one day and officially retired as a member of the team he served from 1990 to 2002.

Emmitt now lives in Dallas, where he and his wife run their charity organization: Emmitt and Pat Smith Charities.
