Jorryt Van Hoof

After founding a gaming company dedicated to selling collectable card games in his hometown of Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Jorryt was introduced to poker by customers who played in his store. His interest was piqued and he gave poker a try. It wasn’t long before he was hooked.

Jorryt enjoyed some early success, winning a few small buy-in tournaments. He then went on to lose his entire bankroll three times within a year. That was enough to convince him he needed to take things more seriously if he wanted to be a successful poker player.

The realization led Jorryt to make his first and only New Year’s resolution. He vowed to start approaching poker with a professional attitude, and he never looked back.

Although he is known primarily for his ring game prowess, Jorryt has had some success on the tournament scene. He took seventh place at the Dutch Open in the 2006 Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam for over $67K and, in 2010, he finished second in the Malta Poker Open Main Event for $23K. He has also managed to notch four cash finishes in World Series of Poker events.

Jorryt recommends that players take an analytical approach to poker and always have good reasons for the decisions they make at the table. As he puts it, “Play feel-based poker and you won’t last.”

Away from the tables, Jorryt invests most of his time in his latest business venture, Nederpoker, a Dutch coaching and instructional website. He also enjoys going to the gym and reading. After leaving Eindhoven for Dublin, Ireland, where he lived for a year, he moved to his current home in Malta.
