Peter Jetten plays online at Full Tilt Poker

Peter Jetten

A native of Toronto, Canada, Peter is one of the influx of young online poker phenoms to storm the scene in recent years. Peter started life in poker from scratch, winning $75 from two online Freeroll tournaments in 2004. He took that money and began playing low stakes tournaments, eventually moving on to cash games and climbing up in stakes. Within a year he had amassed an impressive $100K bankroll.

Peter has now become a regular in the highest stakes online cash games, as well as a recognizable face at top live tournament events.

Known online as ‘Apathy’, he started to get serious about poker while he was studying philosophy and history at the University of Western Ontario. As his results at the tables improved, Peter decided to drop out of school to focus his energy on poker full time.

By 2006, Peter started to utilize his talents on the live tournament circuit, finishing 8th at the WSOP $2,500 Short Handed No-Limit Hold ‘em event. It was in 2008, however, that Peter really started to make waves, just missing out on his first bracelet by finishing second in the $10K World Championship Pot Limit Omaha event at the WSOP to take home over $500K. He followed that up a few months later with a fourth-place finish at the High Roller event of the European Poker Championships in London for a $300K payday.

After three cashes in the 2009 WSOP, Peter started 2010 with a fifth-place result in the Aussie Millions Main Event to add another $300K to his bankroll. Later in the year, he returned to the WSOP and reached the final table of the $10K Pot Limit Hold ‘em Event, before making a deep run in the Main Event, where he finished in 54th place for $160K.

As a regular at the highest stake games, Peter is good friends with fellow high-stakes player and Team Full Tilt member Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan. The two often engage in entertaining prop bets, one of which resulted in Dwan wearing a button with Peter’s face on it at the 2010 WSOP. That spawned something of a button craze as other players started wearing various Jetten buttons in public and at high profile poker events.

When asked why he hadn’t donned one of the buttons himself, Peter replied, “I walk around with the same face all the time, I don't need to wear (a button) also.”

Away from the tables, Peter has combined his love of travel with a new-found passion for SCUBA diving, with diving trips to Catalina, Australia, and Mexico. He is also a big sports and music fan, attending many games and concerts.
